Wisconsin residents across the state get their chance to weigh in on the Governor’s proposed state budget, starting today. The Legislature’s Joint Finance Committee will hold the first of three public hearings on the two-year state budget at the University in Stevens Point.
Campus spokesman Stephen Ward says they are prepared to deal with up to 10,000 demonstrators showing up at the hearing. The university says it is expecting demonstrators to remain peaceful.
He says demonstrators can peacefully gather outside the field house, where the hearing is taking place. He is asking that they respect the campus.
Ward says he does not expect the event to disrupt classes at the UW-Stevens Point and no scheduling changes have been made.
Other hearings are scheduled for later this month in Superior and West Allis.
