JFC water action questioned

May 26, 2011 By Bob Hague

Will Wisconsin waters be at more risk for contamination under terms of the budget? Amber Meyer Smith with Clean Wisconsin said action this week by the Joint Finance Committee could do just that. “They voted to have the DNR repeal and recreate all of a decade old rule package that protects Wisconsin lakes, rivers and streams from pollution that runs off from farm fields, construction zones and city streets,” Meyer Smith said. “This is a huge environment rollback, and I can only hope that the Joint Finance Committee did not intend this big of an action, and we ask them to fix this so that Wisconsin’s waterways are not left vulnerable.”
