Barrett says Republicans “drunk on power”

June 6, 2011 By Andrew Beckett

Milwaukee’s mayor says Republicans in the Legislature and Governor Walker are “drunk on power” and Democrats need to mobilize to stop their agenda.

Speaking at the Democratic Party of Wisconsin’s convention in Milwaukee over the weekend, the former candidate for Governor told delegates the GOP has “sold out the middle class and Wisconsin values for a 12-pack of special interest brew.” Barrett says it’s up to Democrats to sober them up.

Barrett warned Democrats to watch out for GOP efforts to divide people across the state so they can hold on to power. He says they’ve waged an “ideological war” against the elderly, the poor, and the working people of the state for the past five months, and there’s no sign of the GOP taking its foot off of the accelerator.

Barrett also thanked delegates for supporting him in his unsuccessful bid for the Governor’s office last November. He says it’s unfortunate people didn’t listen to warnings about Republican Scott Walker’s agenda. Now, Barrett says even some moderate Republicans are starting to question what the GOP is doing in the state.
