Bucky Shoot to fire off Saturday

June 17, 2011 By Brian Moon

An event combining Midwest’s top clay shooters with the country’s top wrestlers takes place Saturday. Milford Hills Hunt Club in Johnson Creek hosts the 12th annual Bucky Shoot with proceeds going to the Badger Wrestling Club, a non-profit devoted to helping Wisconsin wrestlers compete internationally.

“You know it’s going to a good cause and some great guys trying to make their Olympic dreams,” said Lloyd Marks, who co-owns Milford Hills with his brother Dan.

Shooters ranging from novice to “some of the Midwest’s best,” are drawn to the event because of the unique prize system.

“There is a Lewis Class form so it rewards those who don’t shoot as much.” Marks said. “There are five classes and we usually pay out around $1,000 a class.”

Marks recalls past events that have brought wrestlers such as Olympic Gold Medalists Rulon Gardner and Cael Sanderson.

This year, three-time World Champion Lee Kemp will make a special appearance, along with UW-Madison coaches and wrestlers.
