Chris Capuano pitched with the Milwaukee Brewers from 2004 through last season. Last night, he returned in a New York Mets uniform, facing his old team. Capuano tossed six solid innings and beat the Brewers 2-1 at Miller Park.
The only blemish for Capuano came on a sixth inning solo home run off the bat of Prince Fielder. That blast put the Brewers in front, but Jose Reyes answered in the top of the 7th, tripling in two runs to wrap up the scoring.
Shaun Marcum struggled with his command much of the night, but still pitched well enough to win.
Marco Estrada took the loss in relief of Marcum. Estrada walked the leadoff man in the 7th and eventually surrendered the 2-run triple to Reyes.
Game two of the series is tonight.
