Marinette County man killed in officer involved shooting

June 8, 2011 By Andrew Beckett

The Wisconsin Department of Justice is investigating an officer involved shooting in Marinette County, after one man was shot and killed by Sheriff’s deputies.

The Marinette County Sheriff’s Department says deputies responded to a domestic disturbance around one AM Wednesday in the Town of Beaver. When the officers arrived, an 83-year-old man armed with a shotgun exited the residence.

The suspect allegedly would not comply with police instructions and then pointed the weapon at an officer. Sheriff Jerry Sauve says that’s when the man was shot and killed.

At this point in the investigation, Sauve says all indications are that officers acted appropriately and as they were trained to do.

Sheriff Sauve says he asked the Wisconsin Department of Justice to investigate the fatal shooting because it is standard protocol.

Authorities plan to release more information on the incident at a press conference scheduled for Friday.
