Roenicke complains about interleague play

June 23, 2011 By Bill Scott

After his Milwaukee Brewers dropped their second interleague series this season, skipper Ron Roenicke said the interleague schedule setup is not fair.

The Brewers lost the rubber match of their series with Tampa Bay 6-3 on Wednesday and Roenicke took advantage of a post game press conference question to let his feelings on the issue show.

The Brewers have already played Tampa Bay and Boston from the American League East, two of the top three teams in that division.  They’ll face the other top team from the East next week when they go to New York.  That series with the Yankees will be sandwiched by a pair of 3-game series with the Minnesota Twins, in Milwaukee this weekend and at Minnesota next weekend.  The Twins have won 8 of their last 9 games.

In contrast, the St. Louis Cardinals won’t have to play the Red Sox or the Yankees at all this season.  The defending NL Central champion Cincinnati Reds face the Yankees at home but don’t have a meeting scheduled against the Red Sox.
