As conditions improved considerable in the afternoon, 20-year-old amateur Tom Lewis fired a 5-under par 65 to share the first round lead at the British Open at Royal St. George’s in Sandwich, England. Lewis shares the lead with Thomas Bjorn who played in the morning when conditions were windy and light rain was off and on.
Bjorn returned to The Open Championship as a 5th alternate, playing on the course that he once held a 3-shot lead on the final day at the British Open and lost it back in 2003. But Bjorn liked the way his round went today.
