Brewers top the Reds 5-4

The Milwaukee Brewers opened their 4-game series with the Cincinnati Reds Thursday night with 5-4 win at Miller Park.  The Brewers were just 2-7 this year against the Reds entering Thursday’s game.

Chris Narveson went 6-innings allowing 2-runs on 7-hits.  His record moves above .500 to 6-5 for the season.  Manager Ron Roenicke on his starters performance…

The bullpen was a little shakey.  After getting the ball with a 5-2 lead in the 7th, the Reds were able to get a single run in the 8th off LaTroy Hawkins and one more in the 9th off John Axford.  Axford still shut the door for his 23rd save of the year.

Rickie Weeks had the big hit in the game, a 3-run home run in the 5th.  It was Weeks 16th long ball of the season.  Weeks on winning 2-straight after a rough start to the week…

The Brewers were still without OF Ryan Braun Thursday.  Braun has now missed 5-straight games.  Roenicke talked about the plan for his All-Star after last night’s win…

The Brewers and Reds go at it again tonight at Miller Park.  Zack Greinke hurls opposite of Cincy’s Mike Leake for a 7:10 first pitch. 

Milwaukee is once again tied for first in the NL Central as St. Louis lost to Arizona Thursday night.
