Counsell leads Brewers to win at the break! (AUDIO)

July 11, 2011 By Bill Scott

Veteran Craig Counsell was mired in a 0-for-28 slump when he received the call to pinch hit in the 9th inning yesterday.  Counsell put his slump on the back burner and delivered the game winning sacrifice fly in the Milwaukee Brewers  4-3 come-from-behind win at Miller Park on Sunday.

Counsell’s game winner capped off another comeback victory over Reds closer Francisco Cordero.  The Brewers also beat Cordero in a comeback win on Friday.  Mark Kotsay singled in the tying run moments before Counsell’s heroics.

The Brewers comeback win spoiled the return to the majors of Reds lefty Dontrelle Willis, who allowed just 2-runs through the first six innings.

The Brewers took 3 of 4 in the series against Cincinnati and head into the all-star break tied with the St. Louis Cardinals for first place atop the National League Central.  Both teams are just 1-game in front of Pittsburgh, whose 47 wins is the most since 1992, the last year the Pirates made the playoffs.
