Fitzgerald reacts to redistricting suit dismissal

July 29, 2011 By WRN Contributor

State Senate Majority Leader Scott Fitzgerald says he wasn’t surprised when a federal court Thursday dismissed a lawsuit brought by Democrats against the Republican’s state legislative redistricting plan.

The state lawmaker from Juneau says the state has well over 300,000 more residents that 10 years ago and there have been some significant population shifts. Fitzgerald believes the Republican redistricting plan was well thought out and will hold up if Democrats challenge it in state court.

The legislature passed the new boundaries earlier this month, but Governor Scott Walker has held off on signing them into law.
