Several hundred crammed into the Fond du Lac School District’s Boardroom Monday to ask the school board to reconsider extending teachers’ days by an hour. Fond du Lac Education Association President Hedy Eischeid says their concerns are not about the mandated hour, rather about how the decision was made and the effect on clubs and tutoring time teachers provide to students.
Eighteen-year-old Brenna McDermot told the gathering without the before school help she wouldn’t have done as well in math.
Superintendent Jim Sebert made the decision about the extra hour, which teachers will use for collaboration and development time. He says they have added some structure that will include activity periods and homework time.
The additional activity time includes one hour a week for elementary and middle school clubs, and two hours at the high school.
