As the Packers open up training camp today they will be without a few familiar faces.  The Packers cut a pair of former first round draft picks to clear salary cap space.  Nick Barnett was informed earlier in the week that he would be released, saving the team about $5 million dollars in salary cap space.  On Thursday defensive end Justin Harrell and linebacker Brady Poppinga were also cut.  Guard Daryn Colledge also decided to sign a contract withArizona, running back Brandon Jackson is headed to the Browns and Offensive lineman Jason Spitz is going toJacksonville.  Receiver James Jones was said to be close to a deal with the Vikings.  The Packers also paid running back Ryan Grant his $1.75 million dollar roster bonus, which implants him as the starter.

The team’s first practice is Saturday night at 7pm.  They will also have a workout Sunday night at 7pm.  Those will be open to the public on the Ray Nitschke Field weather permitting.

The Packers held their annual Shareholder Meeting today at Lambeau Field.  GM Ted Thompson got a long standing ovation from those in attendance.  Team President Mark Murphy saidGreen Baywas #1 in apparel sales in the NFL this past year.
