Stricker and Wilson in the hunt at the John Deere Classic

July 8, 2011 By Bill Scott

It was a good day for the Wisconsin contingent teeing off at this year’s John Deere Classic Thursday at the TPC Deere Run in Silvis, IL.

Two-time defending Champion Steve Stricker fired an opening round 5-under par 66 as he sits three shots off the lead entering Friday’s second round.  Mark Wilson of Menominee Falls was one shot better than Stricker with his 6-under 65.

Appleton’s J.P Hayes ended the day 3-under par.  Hayes was 5-under at one point but finished the day with a couple of rough holes.  Jerry Kelly battled to end the day even.  All four tee off in the afternoon for round 2.

Kris Blanks holds the first round lead at 8-under par.
