Sunday juice use record set

July 18, 2011 By WRN Contributor

People trying to keep cool in the midst of a week long heat wave have set a record for electricity usage on a Sunday. Madison Gas and Electric has been really pumping out the “juice” for air conditioners. “We set an all time record for Sunday electric usage,” said MG&E spokesman Steve Kraus, breaking a record previously set in 2005. Alliant Energy spokesman Steve Schultz said homeowners with programmable thermostats can set them to about 78 degrees when no one is home during the day, then cooler for the evening hours. Both utilities expect to have sufficient energy supplies during the week-long heat wave.
