He didn’t practice today, but second year Green Bay Packers defensive end Mike Neal was described as day-to-day by head coach Mike McCarthy. In fact, McCarthy didn’t even rule Neal out of Friday’s home preseason game against the Arizona Cardinals.
Neal is the player the Packers are counting on to replace Cullen Jenkins at defensive end. The entire organization got a scare when Neal went down with what appeared to be a fairly significant knee injury during a non-contact drill during workouts on Tuesday.
Neal told a reporter later that day that an exam afterwards with team trainers led to the belief that there’s no structural damage. It was believed that Neal would undergo an MRI today, but McCarthy told reporters today there was no scan taken and that Neal is going to be fine.
