Following major violence committed by youngsters August 4th after the State Fair, some news reports claimed the Milwaukee Youth Council would be holding a forum addressing the incident. An executive council member clarifies the forum is intended to be an open discussion for young people on any topic.
“It was actually kind of spun by the media as forum about the violence at the State Fair although I’m sure it will come up,” says Shavon Rudolph. She says planning for the forum began prior to the mob incident.
Rudolph, 17, emphasizes it’s important to also focus on positive things teens are doing. She cites the Youth Council, a city agency, communicating with management at Bayshore and Mayfair Malls to modify restrictive curfews on young shoppers.
Another group, Urban Underground, helps keep kids active with afterschool programs.
The date of the forum has not been finalized although it will likely be held in September at Rufus King High School.
