State officials will gather at the Capitol next weekend to mark the 10th anniversary of the September 11th terrorist attacks. The public is invited to attend the event marking the solemn anniversary of the largest terrorist attack on American soil.
Lieutenant Colonel Jackie Guthrie with the Wisconsin National Guard says the ceremony will be among many across the country. A national moment of silence is planned for when the first plane hit the World Trade Center tower, at about 7:46 AM Central time.
She says the event is intended to honor those who lost their lives in the attacks, and everyone who has sacrificed since then to fight the global war on terrorism.
The state’s adjutant general, Major General Dan Dunbar, will be among those speaking at the memorial. Dunbar was in Washington D.C. on the day of the attacks, which included a plane crashing into the Pentagon. Guthrie says Dunbar will share his experiences and how it has affected Wisconsin’s service members over the last decade.
The ceremony will be followed by a “Freedom Walk” around the state Capitol building. The event begins at 7:30 on the morning of September 11th.
