Marcum leads Brewers past Cubs

September 21, 2011 By Bill Scott

The Milwaukee Brewers inched closer to their first division title in 29 years by beating the Chicago Cubs 5-1 at Wrigley Field on Tuesday night.

Shaun Marcum threw eight strong innings, allowing 1-run on 5 hits with no walks and 7-strikeouts to pick up his 13th win (13-7) of the season.  Marcum also helped his own cause when he doubled and scored a run.

Rickie Weeks drove in two runs and Nyjer Morgan reached base three times, stole a base and scored two runs to help the Brewers reach 91 wins for the first time since 1992.

The Brewers magic number fell to 3, any combination of Brewer wins or Cardinal defeats totaling 3, will clinch the National League Central division.
