The Green Bay Packers have to cut their roster from 80-players to the NFL’s mandated 53 player regular season limit by 5pm tonight.
According to Rob Demovsky’s story in the Green Bay Press Gazette, the Packers made one roster move already, releasing rookie fullback Jon Hoese, an undrafted free agent out of Minnesota.
The Packers also reportedly waived wide receiver Kerry Taylor and told him that they only intend to keep 5-wide receivers. If that’s true, then Chastin West and Tori Gurley are also likely to be released soon.
Hoese’s agent, Brian Rader told the newspaper that the Packers asked his client to remain in Green Bay until they figure out what their plans are for the practice squad. If the Packers decide to keep only one fullback on their roster, there’s a chance they could bring Hoese back when the teams can begin signing players to their practice squad on Sunday.
The Packers are off today, but will practice tomorrow as they start preparing for Thursday’s season opener against the New Orleans Saints.
