Wisconsin’s Smith out for the season

September 13, 2011 By Bill Scott

Wisconsin Badger senior corner Devin Smith will miss the rest of the regular football season because of a left-foot injury.  Smith suffered the injury in Saturday’s win over Oregon State.

Because Smith played as a freshman and has not taken a standard redshirt year, Wisconsin can apply for a medical waiver which would allow Smith to return in 2012 as a fifth year senior.

Marcus Cromartie, a redshirt junior has moved into Smith’s spot with the No. 1 defense.

Smith is expected to miss four to six weeks.  Wisconsin coach Bret Bielema broke the news during the Big Ten Coaches’ Teleconference today.
