Alderman accused of assaulting pregnant worker

October 3, 2011 By WRN Contributor

An alderman in the City of Racine gets locked up on charges of assaulting a female employee of his downtown bar. Keith Fair, 59, is alleged to have choked and assaulted the victim. She is eight weeks pregnant and sought medical attention at a local hospital.

Racine Police were called, but asked the sheriff’s department to take the case when it was learned that Fair was the alleged offender. According to sheriff’s officials, he routinely gave the woman a ride home after work but on Friday night, they argued and things got physical. Sheriff Christopher Schmaling, in a release, says there are obvious signs of assault on the victim, including redness around her neck.

Fair and the police have a history of disagreements over problems related to the tavern. He was jailed Sunday on charges of strangulation-suffocation, false imprisonment, battery and disorderly conduct.
