Desperate robber confesses to newspaper

October 18, 2011 By WRN Contributor

An apparent homeless man is in custody after turning himself into a newspaper after robbing a Janesville bank.  Nikkii Taber, a Janesville Gazette classified sales rep, says the man asked her to call 911. When asked why he replied, “Because I just robbed Johnson Bank.” Taber says the man said it as calmly as if he were placing a classified ad.

She first contacted sales manager Tom Bradley who took him into a conference room. Bradley says he asked the man why he robbed the bank and was told the man was homeless and wanted somewhere warm to stay.

After Taber called police, officers responded in about five minutes. They had already received a hold up alarm from the nearby bank,. Police say it appears to be an act of desperation.
