Study looks at quality of life in northeast Wisconsin

October 5, 2011 By WRN Contributor

A study focused on the quality of life in northeast Wisconsin shows there are a lot of strengths to the region. However, it also says there are many areas in need of improvement.

Every five years non-profits and businesses in the Fox Cities conduct a LIFE study to gauge the emotional, physical, and economic well-being of the area. This year, it was expanded to the Oshkosh and Green Bay as well.

Curt Detjen of the Community Foundation for the Fox Valley Region says it makes sense to take a regional focus because many of the issues are shared between communities, and all cities will need to address them moving forward.

Lora Warner of the U-W Green Bay public affairs department says the LIFE study showed the region has a very good quality of life, a good school system, and it’s a great place to raise a family.

However, Warner says the region does need more good paying jobs, water quality is a concern, and there are continued problems with domestic and child abuse that need to be dealt with.

Warner says she hopes to see progress when the study is conducted again in five years.
