Top ranked women’s hockey falls

October 17, 2011 By Bill Scott

The No. 1 ranked Wisconsin women’s hockey team (5-1-0, 3-1-0 WCHA) dropped their first game of the season, 3-2 to the 3rd ranked Minnesota Gophers at the Kohl Center on Sunday.  The loss was the Badger’s first in 33 games, ending their NCAA record-tying unbeaten streak.

Wisconsin fell behind 2-0, but bounced back behind two goals by senior Brooke Ammerman.  But Minnesota’s Amanda Kessel broke the 2-2 tie in the third period for the win.

Wisconsin heads to Duluth, Minnesota next weekend to take on No. 6 Minnesota-Duluth in its first road trip of the season.
