For the first time in its 38-year program history, the Green Bay women’s basketball team is ranked in a preseason national poll. Green Bay is No. 24 in the preseason USA Today/ESPN Top 25 Coaches’ Poll released on Tuesday.
Prior to Tuesday’s preseason poll, the earliest in a season Green Bay received recognition (receiving votes) in the national rankings was the week of Nov. 15, 2010 when the season’s first AP Top 25 national poll was released. This is the fifth time in eight seasons Green Bay has been ranked in the national polls.
Green Bay received its highest ranking in program history at No. 9 in the final USA Today/ESPN Coaches’ Poll of the 2010-11 season. The ranking followed the team’s historic run in the NCAA Tournament in which it advanced to the Sweet 16 before finishing the season with a program-best 34-2 record.
