Green Bay Packers tight end Andrew Quarless, who played for four seasons
under Joe Paterno at Penn State, said it’s “sad” and “unfortunate” so see the legendary coach fired after 46 years.
Quarless admitted Thursday that it’s difficult to feel sorry for Paterno, who was fired for the way he handled child sexual assault allegations leveled against his former assistant coach Jerry Sandusky.
Quarless said let’s not forget the victim here.

Sandusky was charged with 40 counts of sexual abuse with boys over a 15-year period. Allegations were handed to Paterno in 2002 by a graduate assistant, who said he witnessed Sandusky sexually assaulting one boy in a shower on campus. The coach brought the news to his boss but didn’t report it to police.
Sandusky remained on the Penn State campus even after he retired in 1999. Quarless said it’s hard to understand why Sandusky was allowed to continue to hang around.
