Starks suffers knee sprain

November 21, 2011 By Bill Scott

The Green Bay Packers expect to know more today with regards to the health

James Starks

of running back James Starks.

According to coach Mike McCarthy, Starks sustained a knee sprain in the 4th quarter of Sunday’s 35-26 Green Bay win over Tampa Bay.  The injury appeared to have occurred on a run play in the fourth quarter.

Coach Mike McCarthy sounded optimistic after the game yesterday, but it would be a stretch to think Starks could help the Packers on Thanksgiving day this Thursday.

That leaves Ryan Grant and rookie Brandon Saine at the tailback position.  Grant had just 4 carries for 16 yards on Sunday and has rushed for 267 yards on the season.  Starks meanwhile has rushed for 541 yards on the season.

Starks emerged as the top running back last season and he’s done so again this season.
