Mayo leads Marquette to victory

December 18, 2011 By Bill Scott

Freshman guard Todd Mayo found out he was going to start 10 minutes before game time.  He went out scored 22 points to lead the Marquette Golden Eagles to a 93-72 victory over Northern Colorado

Mayo got the start in place of senior guard Darius Johnson-Odom who was suspended for one game for a violation of team rules.

Jae Crowder added 19 points and Vander Blue 18 for the Golden Eagles.

Mayo had 14 by halftime and Marquette led 42-20 at the break.

It’s the second time this season that a member of the Golden Eagles was suspended for a violation of team rules.  Point guard Junior Cadougan was suspended earlier for a game against Wisconsin.  Coach Buzz Williams said Johnson-Odom would return to the starting lineup on Monday night against LSU.
