Republicans sue GAB

December 15, 2011 By Andrew Beckett

The Republican Party of Wisconsin is filing a lawsuit in Waukesha County Court that claims the state Government Accountability Board’s process for reviewing recall petitions is unconstitutional.

The complaint centers on statements by the GAB that the review process for recall petitions against Governor Scott Walker will not remove signatures from individuals who signed multiple times or provided fraudulent names. The state GOP argues that violates the Equal Protection Rights of those who choose not to sign a petition.

GAB officials have argued that the law only requires them to verify that petition signatures are complete, and it’s up to the campaigns to file challenges to remove fake or duplicated names.
