Roster change in the NWL

December 20, 2011 By Bill Scott

There’ll be some change in the Northwoods League this coming season.

With the release of the league schedule on Monday, the NWL will feature one new team, the Lakeshore Chinooks out of Mequon, Wisconsin.  In order to keep the league at 16 teams, the Brainerd (Minn.) Lakes Area Lunkers are closing their doors.

Brainerd had finished last in Northwoods League attendance for seven consecutive years.  The Brainerd Blue Thunder existed from 2005 through 2008.  The Brainerd Lakes Area Lunkers operated from 2009 through 2011.

The 2012 regular season will begin Wednesday, May 30th.  The NWL has more teams, plays more games, and draws more fans than any other Summer Collegiate Baseball League in North America.
