Bill allows local control of turbine setbacks

January 9, 2012 By Bob Hague

The contentious issue of wind turbine placement is back on the legislative agenda in Madison.

State Senator Frank Lasee wants to allow local communities to create their own minimum setback requirements for wind turbines, something current law does not allow.

AUDIO: Bob Hague reports (:60)

Lasee, a DePere Republican, says the revenues generated by landowners who allow turbines to be placed on their property shouldn’t take precedence over the loss of property value for their neighbors. He hopes to get the bill a public hearing in the current legislative session.
