Medical examiner accused of spine theft

January 5, 2012 By WRN Contributor

A Northwoods medical examiner is facing charges for allegedly stealing a body part. Oneida County medical examiner Traci England is accused of stealing part of a spine during an autopsy this week so she could train her dog to search for human remains.

District attorney Mike Bloom says the investigation is ongoing and could not say if it was a “one time incident.” The theft allegedly took place following an autopsy.

Bloom said he plans to file criminal charges by England’s next court appearance on January 30th. She’s currently free on a signature bond.

Both the Oneida and Forest county sheriff’s departments are investigating.
