Staffers for the state’s Government Accountability Board will keep plugging away, in their analysis of the recall signatures against Governor Walker. A spokeswoman for the governor’s campaign says they won’t file any challenges, leaving it up to the election agency to decide whether there are enough valid signatures.
Board spokesman Reid Magney says they’re looking for duplicate names, and obvious fake names. “If we find that (evidence of fraud) we’ll be referring that to the board for possible referral to district attorneys for prosecution.”
Magney says about 50 temporary workers (and several GAB staffers) are going over the petitions against Walker, the lieutenant governor and four Republican senators.
A spokeswoman for the governor’s campaign says they don’t have enough time to do their own review of the signatures; she urged the GAB to conduct a thorough review.
The agency has until March 19 to determine if there are enough valid signatures to order a recall election.
