Senate approves home brew help

February 14, 2012 By Bob Hague

Legislation making things easier for Wisconsin home brewers passes the state Senate. Current state law prohibits hobby brewers and wine makers from sharing their libations outside the home. The restriction led to cancellation of at least one homebrew festival in Racine, and made tasting and competitions technically illegal. The bill (SB 395), opposed by the Tavern League of Wisconsin, lifts that restriction. It passed the Senate without debate on a 32-1 vote Wednesday, with Majority Leader Scott Fitzgerald the only no vote. The bill now moves to the Assembly.
