Badgers come up short in the NCAA Tournament

March 23, 2012 By Bill Scott

Jordan Taylor missed a three-point shot and Josh Gasser couldn’t connect with a desperation put-back in the closing seconds Thursday night as Wisconsin fell to Syracuse 64-63 in the NCAA Tournament.  The loss marks the second straight season that Badger were eliminated in the regional semi-finals.

Three-point shooting was one of the bright spots for the Badgers as they went 14 of 27 (55%) from behind the arc in the game.  However, Wisconsin hit just 7 of 22 shoots from inside the arc including a 5 of 12 night in the paint.  Taylor and Jared Berggren each scored a game-high 17-points in the loss.  Taylor tried to make it 20 but couldn’t connect…

Defensively, Wisconsin couldn’t do much to stop Syracuse as they shot 55% from the floor and 55% from beyond the arc. C.J Fair led 4-players in double-figures for Syracuse with 15-points.  Orange Head Coach Jim Boeheim had nothing but high praise for the Badgers after the game…

Syracuse will take on Ohio State Saturday for a trip to the final four.  The Buckeyes got by Cincinnati 81-66 Thursday.  Michigan State was booted from the dance by Louisville 57-44.  The Big Ten is 1-2 in the Sweet 16 so far with Indiana taking on #1 Kentucky Friday night.

Wisconsin’s year ends with a 26-10 record.
