Sheboygan Lutheran’s Sam Dekker hit the game-winning shot in Saturday’s WIAA Division 5 championship game. That performance, along with the rest of his stellar high school career landed Dekker the Wisconsin 2012 Associated Press Player of the Year award.
Dekker, who will play college basketball for the Badgers next season, edged out his future teammate, Zach Showalter for the award. Both Dekker and Showalter are the only two unanimous selections to the first team.
Dekker and Showalter are joined on the first team by J.P. Tokoto of Menomonee Falls, Jordan Fouse of Racine St. Catherines and Matt Thomas of Onalaska.
Germantown coach Steve Showalter was voted the A.P. Coach of the Year.
