Firefighter laid to rest in Colby

March 9, 2012 By WRN Contributor

A fallen Wisconsin firefighter was laid to rest Friday. Firefighters, EMTs and law enforcement personnel from across Wisconsin and the upper Midwest came together to honor Colby firefighter Jamison Kampmeyer. The 34-year-old Marathon County Sheriff’s Deputy died from injuries suffered during a March 4th firefight at the Abby Theater in Abbotsford.

Firefighters came from every county in Wisconsin and four other states to honor Kampmeyer. More than 230 fire response vehicles and 140 squad cars were part of a long funeral procession, led by the Colby Volunteer Fire Department that carried Kampmeyer to his final resting place.

During funeral services inside Colby High School, Governor Scott Walker said it was the largest contingent of emergency response vehicles he had ever seen assembled in one place.

Kampmeyer’s funeral came on the same day his parents John and Patricia marked their 44th wedding anniversary.
