Statewide gas prices are closing in on the $4 a gallon mark, bringing the state close to its record high again. According to AAA-Wisconsin’s latest fuel gauge report, the statewide average for a gallon of regular unleaded fuel was $3.99 on Monday.
Prices across the state varied with Milwaukee as the only city above the $4 mark. However, drivers in that region were hit with a record high for the city when prices soared in some locations to $4.20 a gallon.
The statewide average has jumped $0.45 in the last month and it’s about $0.40 higher than it was at this time last year. It was on May 5th of last year that Wisconsin set a new record for the statewide average when prices peaked at about $4.11 a gallon.
