Lieutenant Governor Rebecca Kleefisch will not challenge signatures on recall petitions filed against her. A judge had given Kleefisch until March 5th to review the 845,000 signatures, but her campaign told the state Government Accountability Board Thursday that it is evident no meaningful review will be completed by that deadline. So, they have decided not to file anything.
Much like Governor Walker’s campaign did earlier this week when it announced no challenges would filed on their behalf, Kleefisch wants the GAB to do a complete review of the petitions and remove any duplicate or fake signatures.
She is also requesting the agency consider reviews being done by Tea Party organizations. The GAB has already indicated it is unable to accept any challenges those groups might try to file.
The board has until March 19th to certify recall petitions against Walker, Kleefisch, and four Republican state senators. However, agency officials have indicated they plan to ask for more time to complete their review and to delay calling likely primary and general elections in those races.
