The state Government Accountability Board is expected to sign off Friday morning on recall elections against Governor Scott Walker and Lieutenant Governor Rebecca Kleefisch.
Agency staff has completed a full review of the petitions and the board is being asked to certify them and schedule elections. The move would put any expected recall primaries on May 8th and a general election on June 5th.
Staff found about 30,000 duplicate or otherwise invalid signatures on petitions against Governor Walker and about 34,000 on petitions against Lt. Governor Kleefisch. That puts the final signature count on Walker recall petitions at 900,938 and 808,990 for Kleefisch. Only 540,208 valid signatures are needed to order an election.
The board has already approved petitions targeting four Republican state Senators. It’s expected on Friday to officially order those elections as well and schedule them for the same dates as the gubernatorial recall.
