Walker slams Dems on mining deadlock

March 8, 2012 By WRN Contributor

Governor Scott Walker is reacting to the lack of a mining compromise at the Capitol. Speaking in the Wausau area on Wednesday, Walker called the state Senate’s decision to kill a mining bill a huge mistake. “The 17 state senators made it clear that they (Gogebic Taconite) and a business like them were not welcome in this state. I think that is a huge mistake. I think that’s one that’s going to haunt those state senators for years to come.”

Walker said the senators who moved to halt consideration of the legislation which would overhaul the state’s mining regulations need to explain their decision. “They need to talk to all those people across the state who are unemployed or under employed, and really answer as to why they couldn’t compromise.”

Walker also said a special legislative session is possible but only if they have enough votes to pass the bill, and slammed the Wisconsin League of Conservation Voters for saying that Gogebic Taconite was not serious about investing in Wisconsin. “They know absolutely nothing about business. They couldn’t be more wrong, and they couldn’t be more out of touch with the reality of business in this state.”
