Burn ban for Northwest Wisconsin

April 5, 2012 By WRN Contributor

A burning ban starts Friday in Wisconsin’s Northwoods, thanks to an extremely dry winter and severe storms last summer. Burnett County Sheriff Dean Rolland says all-of-his county, and portions of Polk, Barron and Washburn Counties are affected. Campfires, fireworks and outdoor smoking will be banned in those areas.

Rolland says Burnett County law enforcement met with the DNR Tuesday on planning. Governor Scott Walker is expected to be in the area today.

Last July, hundreds of thousands of trees topped when straight line winds of over 100-miles-an-hour hit the area. In Burnett County a young girl was killed.
