Safety Nick Collins is expected to find out where he stands with regards to his
NFL playing career today. The Green BayPackers safety is awaiting word from Dr. Frank Cammisa (New York), the surgeon who performed the single-fusion surgery on Collins’ neck in September after he sustained a career-threatening herniated disc 2-weeks into the 2011 season.
Even if Collins is cleared to resume playing, there’s no guarantee the Packers’ medical staff will clear him.
Packers head coach Mike McCarthy told the Green Bay Press Gazette last week, “If Nick was my son, I would not let him play.”
Collins has said he’d like to return to the Packers, but he’s also indicated that he would retire if he turns out to be more at risk.
