Concrete incident ruled accidental

April 19, 2012 By Andrew Beckett

A chunk of concrete that flew through the windshield of a Columbia County man earlier this week was apparently the result of a freak accident.

The softball sized piece of concrete crashed through the windshield of 50-year-old Kevin Droz of Fall River on Tuesday, while he was driving near Madison. The chunk of cement hit Droz in the head, causing serious injuries.

Investigators with the Dane County Sheriff’s Office say it appears the rock most likely came from a broken-up section of roadway on US Highway 151. Investigators believe another vehicle kicked-up the piece of concrete from the roughly four foot section of road, propelling it through Droz’s windshield.

The DOT has already repaired the area. Droz remain hospitalized in fair condition.
