Brewers offense: A disappearing act

May 8, 2012 By Bill Scott

Ryan Braun’s 9th home run of the season came in the 1st inning, giving the

Ron Roenicke

Brewers an early lead.  Little did everyone know that would be it for the game.

Jay Bruce hit a 3-run homer and Bronson Arroyo pitched into the 7th, leading the Cincinnati Reds to a 6-1 win over the Milwaukee Brewers at Miller Park on Monday night.  Bruce’s 9th homer of the season capped a 5-run fourth inning off of Marco Estrada, extending his hitting streak to 10-games.

The Brewers are going to need to be better at the top of their order if they’re going to win.

Both Norichika Aoki and Rickie Weeks went hitless last night.  Aoki for the season is hitting .211 and Weeks saw his number drop back to .174.

The Brewers have scored just 11 runs over the last 10 games, going 3-7 during that stretch.

Brewer hitters struck out a dozen times last night.  That total gives Reds pitchers 29 strikeouts over the last two games.

Game 2 of the series is tonight at Miller Park.  Yovani Gallardo (1-3, 5.79) pitches for the Brewers.  Homer Bailey (1-2, 3.77) goes for the Reds.
