Injuries mounting for the Brewers

May 3, 2012 By Bill Scott

The Milwaukee Brewers have already lost fifth starter Chris Narveson for the season with a torn rotator cuff and fraying in the labrum of his pitching shoulder.   But wait, there’s more.

All-star left fielder Ryan Braun was removed from last night’s 5-0 loss to the San Diego Padres with a right Achilles strain.  It’s not known how long Braun might be out.

The Brewers also learned yesterday that first baseman Mat Gamel could be out for the balance of the season.  Gamel reportedly needs surgery for a torn ACL in his right knee and is expected to miss a significant amount of the season.  Gamel hurt his knee in Tuesday’s loss.  General manager Doug Melvin stopped short of declaring Gamel out for the season.

Without Gamel, the Brewers have Travis Ishikawa to play first base.  Outfielder Corey Hart could get some looks there as well.
