The injuries are piling up for the Milwaukee Brewers and a bizarre accident has cost them their hottest player.
Catcher Jonathan Lucroy is out 4 to 6 weeks after suffering a broken hand in his hotel room on Sunday night. Lucroy was reportedly reaching under the bed in his hotel room for a sock when his wife shifted a suitcase that fell and struck his hand.
The injury couldn’t have come at a worse time for Lucroy and the Brewers. The right-handed hitting Lucroy was one of the hottest hitters in the National League (.388 in May). He was leading the major leagues with a .514 average with runners in scoring position for the season.
The Brewers called up catcher Martin Maldonado from the minors. He’s expected to start tonight and is expected to do most of the catching for a while with backup George Kottaras hobbled by a sore hamstring.
