Marietta defends NCAA Division III Baseball title

May 31, 2012 By Bill Scott

Marietta College fought its way through the losers bracket to capture its second straight NCAA Division III College World Series championship at Fox Cities Stadium in Grand Chute.

Marietta knocked off St. Thomas 5-0 to advance to the Title game, then beat Wheaton College 7-2 to wrap up the Division III championship.

Marietta’s national title was an NCAA Division III-record 6th and marked the first time in their history they had won back-t0-back championships.  The last school to win back-to-back Division III crowns was Rowan University in 1979.

Marietta finished the season 48-8.  Wheaton College ends its season at 41-11.
