Right-hander Jeff Suppan, who hadn’t pitched in the majors since 2010, filled
in for the injured Cory Luebke and pitched five shutout innings, allowing four hits and two walks. Suppan combined with 3-relievers to help the San Diego Padres blank the Milwaukee Brewers 5-0 at Petco Park.
Suppan is now 13-2 lifetime against the Brewers and improved to 7-0 with a 1.81 ERA in 13 appearances (12 starts) since 2004.
The Brewers had 6 hits in all, two each from Corey Hart and Jonathan Lucroy in the loss.
Yovani Gallardo took the loss, struggling with his command early. Gallardo (1-3) worked 6 innings, allowing 3 runs on 7 hits, walking 3 and striking out 4.
The Brewers biggest problem of late is their offensive inconsistency.
